SP Investment Fund LLC and its affiliates have invested in over 100 multifamily communities involving over 10,000 units all across the United States. The vast majority of the units in these communities are reserved for occupancy by low income and very low income tenants in return for government subsidy. The tenants’ rent payments are typically substantially below market rate rents for comparable properties. 

SP and its affiliates have found resourceful ways to invest in and create affordable housing, such as partnerships with public, private and non-profit organizations that are focused on serving low income and very low income seniors and families. In developing, rehabilitating and operating affordable housing, SP and its affiliates focus on attractive, well maintained, safe and affordable communities that elevate the lives of the residents they serve and that all stakeholders can feel proud to be a part of. 

SP Investment Fund LLC and its affiliates also creatively invests in affordable housing through the purchase of limited partner interests in limited partnerships which own affordable housing. Many of these limited partnerships were formed thirty years ago as tax shelter partnerships, but our now burnt out tax shelters that generate phantom taxable income (taxable income in excess of any distributions) and have never had a liquidity event. The general partners typically have not had a reason to liquidate these partnerships, often due to misaligned incentives that occurred at the time of creation of the original partnership agreements and structures. 

In addition to investing in affordable housing, SP Investment Fund LLC and its affiliates have developed a keen interest in investing in emerging technology companies that have developed ground breaking products that will be greatly beneficial to humanity. While these investments are statistically risky, SP is passionate about these investments and the social good that can result from them. Because of their important mission, a number of the emerging technology companies that SP has invested in have also received grants from charitable foundations and government organizations, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, the Department of Energy, and DARPA.
